Tim Minchin by Anita-Sanderson Tim Minchin by Anita-Sanderson
A portrait in Beryl Verithik coloured pencils of Tim Minchin, the Australian-British Comedian. He was suggested as a subject for a portrait by Jayden-Lee Sumner aka "Whinger"...so I've drawn him for Jayden-Lee. Size: A3.

I claim no ownership of the characters or primary resources used in connection to this piece. I have drawn this purely for recreational purposes and no commercial gain. I, therefore, ask for this image not be reproduced in any way and purely viewed for pleasure, on this website. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

I'm finding new and wonderful things to fav on your site, Anita.  I only recently became aware of Tim Minchin after someone pointed me in the direction of his "Prejudice" song.  After hearing that I had to check out his other songs.  Too Funny! :giggle:

Hehe, ah you're too kind! :-)  Yes, Tim Minchin is so, so funny and he's a man of many talents, I think.  Whenever I watch or listen to him, there's never a time where I don't find myself in stitches of laughter! :-)

Ah thanks! :-) It just takes a bit of practise...and patience...which can be the hardest part if it feels like the picture isn't going the way that you want it to...but this one seemed to build up nicely. I like your gallery. ;-) I've looked through it, added it to my watch list this morning. I look forward to seeing your additions...and I like how you communicate throughout it too, with your photos too... ;-)

Well, they have changed over time, and that's something worthwhile for you have noticed, in itself, I'd say. :-) If I like a technique that an artist has used, I sit with materials and play around with them to try to produce that effect...that way you get a feel for the mediums that you are using too. Really, it's all about having fun with that and experimenting. That's how I've learnt new techniques at times and other times, has just been by accident. That's Ok. I wouldn't type it to you, if it wasn't meant genuinely. :-)

yes it is true haha... Ive tried changing my styles over time, once I did a drawing with colours and then added in watercolours after it, it was the worst thing I ever did haha
Usually I just stick with the materials Im used to, good old Polychromos pencils :D
Some people tell me to add some thick lines, but it just doesn't sit with me, so I just do what feels right

Yeah, you should do what makes you feel happy. If drawing in a way that another persons suggests doesn't feel right, then yeah, why not give it a try? If you're really really sure that you don't like it, then there isn't much point to continue with that technique...unless you really like the technique and how it looks when having viewed other finished pictures using it...yep, I love pencils too. I feel as though I have more control with them too.

Aw, thanks! :-) That's a really great comment. I try to draw well known people that I haven't seen other draw very much. When Tim Minchin was suggested to me, I thought "hey yeah! Nice idea!" as I love his humour too. He's one of the funniest comedians about, I think. I'm always in stitches, when I watch him...

No, it's funny you ask, Danii. I have some really cheap children's pencil that I bought last year. I have a pile of A3 "scrap" paper, that is slightly tinted from age. When I started to draw him, I was just playing around with the crayons really...and then it just built up and I was really pleased with the result! :-) It was a very economical (with costs) drawing. It just goes to show that you don't need really expensive equipment to get a nice result. ;-)

Aw, thanks! ;-) I meant because I wasn't expecting it to work well. The paper has a slippery surface, but it was surprising how comfortable it felt, to draw on it, and layer up the colour. :-) Do you prefer to be called Danii? I wasn't sure how to address you... :-)
